Learning Celebration and Christmas Gifts

Student Portfolio Sharing
Thank you to the families who came to celebrate their child’s learning with them by visiting our Kindergarten classroom last week (Nov. 22nd and 23rd) during “Student Portfolio Conferences”. It has been shown that an excellent a predictor of a child’s success in school is parental interest and support in learning and I enjoy the opportunity to speak with you – the children’s learning is one of my favourite subjects!
If you have not yet visited our classroom, please let me know if you can come by on the following alternate night: Monday, December 5th between 3:45 and 5:00. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can make it or not by e-mailing me at lbutterfield@bsls.ca. We look forward to your visit!

CHRISTMAS HAMPER and GIFTS
BSLS engages in an enormous Christmas Cheer Board campaign with Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, and our Kindergarten class generally collects items for one each year.

Since I am blessed each year with lovely sentiments from students, I would like to make a special request of you this year, if it would not be presumptuous. Regarding “teacher” Christmas gifts, I would like to ask that your child instead either
a) bring double of the items they have drawn from our hamper list OR
b) bring a gently used, no longer required winter coat (of ANY size from infant to adult) or warm new mittens
and place the “extra items” in a plastic grocery bag marked “To Mrs. Butterfield” so that we might put together an additional collection for those in need and a donation to the Koats for Kids campaign.

Of course, I ALWAYS love to receive cards, letters, and pictures from the children, and hope that Christmas might be a chance for them to share their burgeoning printing and artistic skills!
