FIRE SAFETY
We will have our first Fire Safety lesson, and practice being “Fire Safety Experts” with our first (Kindergarten-only) walk-though of how to exit the school in case of fire. A safety handout will be sent home with your child to facilitate your discussion with them about exit plans and meeting places, and to minimize any anxiety he/she might have around the discussion of fire safety. We will be having whole school fire safety drills and lock-down drills throughout the year. If you have any questions about these school-wide procedures, please contact Principal McCrea at principal@bsls.ca.
Terry Fox Walk
This week, all of the students will go for a walk through the neighbourhood as part of the annual Terry Fox Walk, and on that day in Kindergarten we will be reading stories, watching a video, and finding out a bit more about this fundraiser to assist those affected by cancer. All children at BSLS were given a form and letter from Mr. Wozney, should your family feel called to make or seek out donations for the cancer research, please return the form and monies on Friday.
Since the walk is on a day that not all children attend, children who do not attend on that day are welcome to come with their parent on the walk and to stay for a treat afterward before they head home. All students are asked to wear their school shirt on that day.
Our class will be walking with our Reading Buddies from the Grade 5/6 Class to increase safety and enjoyment of the awareness-raising walk.
We have been gradually moving to
integrate our Kindergarten schedule of learning, play, music, phys. ed.,
snacks, and lunch to match that of the other classes in the school. One of the most important times for us is
beginning our day together, and I am very appreciative that you have been
bringing your child to school early enough to allow our morning routine to run
smoothly. If you need to speak with me,
I am happy to schedule a meeting after I walk the Kindergarteners to After
School Care and ensure those being picked up are with their parents. It is a privilege to talk to you about your
child’s learning and adjustment to Kindergarten, and I look forward to
opportunities to do so once the other Kindergarten children are safely cared
for after school.
Thanks for
your incredible support already of your child’s learning and success at
school!
Mrs. Lorianne Butterfield
