Sharing The Blessings of the Coming Season

Dear Kindergarten Families:

Thank-you for attending the Student Led Conferences on Nov. 20 and 21. This important support has research-demonstrated benefits for your child's school success!  If you would like to have any further discussions regarding your child's progress, please feel free to e-mail me or check in after school any day so that we set up a meeting for the earliest possible mutually-convenient time.

Thank-you for sending extra mittens and socks for your child.  The children's increasing independence regarding dressing and tracking their items has been extraordinary, and I celebrate this with you!  If your child is missing any items, PLEASE check the lost and found table that was placed in the hallways during conference time.  Articles left over are donated to Goodwill at the Christmas holiday (though I confess to rescuing any "smaller-sized" mittens in the event that their status is not discovered by parents until later in the winter, but am unable to store the plethora of clothing items I am staggered to discover in the lost and found bin each year).

Thank you, also, for ensuring that your child has one pair of indoor shoes that are also suitable for the gymnasium.  Negotiations regarding shoe changes and tracking extra shoes impacts the whole class.

THERE ARE SEVERAL OPTIONAL GIVING PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN BY OUR GENEROUS BSLS FAMILIES FOR YOUR FAMILY'S PRAYERFUL CONSIDERATION DURING THE CELEBRATORY SEASON TO COME:

  • Together as a classroom community, we will be collecting items to put together a hamper of Christmas food and gifts for a family.  There are many families working very very hard to provide for their children, but are having difficulty at this particular time.  If you or someone close to you could use a little help with food and gifts this Christmas, please let me know.  I will discreetly pass on the paperwork for your request to the organizers of the tremendous Beautiful Savior Christmas Hamper project that overtakes the gym at BSLS for a week in  December.  Coming home very soon will be a letter and a request for a few grocery items.                                                                              We use a pull-tab system of selecting items to put in to the hamper, and in this way your child is given some choice in the items he/she would most like to donate.  If you would prefer to send some other item instead, please do so, please just tape the pull-tab back inside your child's bookworm bag notebook for its subtle return, to allow me to quickly track which items are required.  Also part of the hamper will be a wrapped gift for the child(ren) of the family.  If you would be interested in purchasing this gift, please send me a separate e-mail.  Details of the ages of the children will be provided to me in early December and I will pass them on to you as soon as I receive them.
  • The Grade 5/6 Class would also like to collect additional toys for their class' service project.  Details will be in a letter in your child's bookworm bag that I have been holding until our Christmas hamper information goes home as well.  Participation in this optional project for another class can be done by bringing your gift to the Chapel area to put under the Christmas tree.
  • CLWR (Canadian Lutheran World Relief) November collection items: sets of 10 un-sharpened pencils, a sharpener and an eraser. The collection bucket is outside of Ms. Meilleur's Grade 5/6 Classroom door.

  • Rehimet, our Compassion Canada sponsor child loves to receive letters, if your child would like to write a letter to her in Ethiopia (several of the classes also write to her each year). $1.00/month of the school year from each student ensures her continuation of school, proper clothing, nutrition, and community projects.  If you would like to find out more about Compassion and their philosophy, please visit www.compassion.ca.
God bless,
