Dear Kindergarten Families:
Thank you for your tremendous support of the Kindergarten Valentine exchange last week. In understand from Miss Cleave, Miss Laird from the U of W, and the Kindergarteners, that there was much enthusiasm for the event last week. While it was difficult to miss the festivities, the lead-up learning and enthusiasm was fantastic!
This week at BSLS is I Love to Read Week, which schoolwide updates indicated will contain a few special dress up days and literature activities. In Kindergarten, all days are optional, though we hope for 100% participation on Friday (for children who do not feel comfortable wearing pajamas to school, a robe overtop of school clothes often works great at feeling both comfortable on their own terms and part of the festivities as well):
Wednesday is Sports Day - wear a jersey, t-shirt or uniform of your favorite sport or team
Thursday is Storybook Character Day (bring a book with your favorite character, and dress up as him/her if you wish also)
Friday is Pajama Day - Kindergarteners are welcome and encouraged to wear pj's, bring their favourite bedtime book, and a stuffed friend (just this once...we will all be in "tracking favourite items mode" so it is a generally atypical day. May I take this opportunity to thank you for being so diligent about ensuring your children understand the rule regarding money and toys being left at home. It assists dramatically in smooth classroom interactions).
During the week we have several guest teacher readers planned (if you would like to read to us before you leave in the morning - between 8:45 and 9 a.m. - we would love to book you to do so anytime beginning next week. Also coming to talk about writing and publishing stories will be a Winnipeg author who recently launched her published work of children's literature.
Canteen cards are available for purchase by Kindergarten families, and at the current time, I continue to "take milk orders" or other written requests parents make in the bookworm bag for rare lunch items. Either one of the student helpers from Grades 5 - 8 or myself then deliver the orders back to the students, to ensure maximum time for eating is available to the K students.
On the heels of our provincial long-weekend, I would also just like to remind all families that there is NO SCHOOL ON MARCH 1st in preparation for Report Cards to be sent home the following week. Please see Mrs. Thiessen's BSLS School updates regarding sign-up for Student-led Conferences in March. Kindergarten parents boasted an impressive 100% participation rate in the first round of Student-led Conferences, and your children's growth is evidence of your support of their learning.
I look forward to seeing you, but also welcome questions and concerns regarding your child's progress by e-mail to lbutterfield@bsls.ca, phone at 204-984-9600 x.5, or I am available for drop in appointments between 3:30 - 4:00 daily, or feel free to make an appointment if that is more convenient for your schedule.
God bless you,
Mrs. Lorianne Butterfield
