2014 Learning, Growing, Staying Warm

SOCIAL STUDIES AND LANGUAGE LEARNING
The Kindergarten Class has returned just in time for learning about New Year's Celebration in different countries around the world.  The students discussed and  bolunteers made notes about which of those customs they would like to try for a class celebration.

PARTY HATS - This exposure to cultural customs will also kick off their foray into "The Design Process" as part of the Science Curriculum, as we work together, and in small groups, to create party hats similar to those viewed in a celebration in Mexico, we will also play games from Japan, Norway, and Portugal, as well as have snacks for our party.

PAPER MACHE - We also worked in groups to create the beginnings of a piƱata, borrowed from the Mexican tradition.  We talked about internet safety, watching a HowTo video on Youtube that was produced by a young girl in Winnipeg.  We will be adapting it for our classroom use, and will use two different artistic techniques to decorate them.  The video can be found here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NguYtIp6HPo.

BRRRRRRR...
THANK YOU FOR SENDING YOUR CHILD WELL-DRESSED FOR THE WEATHER CONDITIONS.  We were indoors for recesses at the start of the week.  The school policy on outdoor recess temperatures and conditions can be found in your school handbook.

MILK AT LUNCH AVAILABLE AT SCHOOL
Parents who would like to purchase a canteen card for their child to get milk are asked to do so in the school office, and to send a note in your child's bookworm bag, requesting that milk be brought for your child.  If you have any questions, please contact me at lbutterfield@bsls.ca.

When children have milk sent in their lunch from home OR you purchase a canteen card for this purpose, they are given ballots for which they can win "milk prizes", which are drawn by Mrs. Madden every Friday.  Bonne chance to the participants!
