WELCOME TO BSLS KINDERGARTEN

The first days of Kindergarten are behind the children, and the week ahead will continue to be focussed on learning about one another, the schedule, routines, and expectations of learning together.  We will also begin learning the sounds, songs, and words associated with /s/.

SO MANY NEW EXPERIENCES...Here is a sample of some of our activities thus far:

The students have...
  • played "The Name Game" to share their own names and learn the names of their classmates.
  • been given their Bookworm Bag to take back and forth to school
  • learned a new “Start the Day” song, "Johnny Appleseed Grace", and "Apple Tree" game for taking turns to get ready for snack
  • been read some stories about first day of school experiences, notably The Kissing Hand and First Day Jitters, and created a "Chester raccoon" puppet which the children placed in their bookworm bags to take home
  • learned about a few of the "Choice Time" activities in the classroom, and the clean-up song to return items to their respective locations to be played with again another day
  • had Music with Mr. B. and Phys. Ed. with Mr. Wozney each day.  For more information on what they are learning in these classes, please visit each of the respective teachers' class blogs, also on the website at www.bsls.ca
  • had recess on both playgrounds with Mrs. Butterfield, and with students from other classes as well.
  • played "Freeze Dance" to assess colour and sequencing knowledge and have fun stretch breaks
  • had their first "French Friday" morning routine.

We have a busy week ahead, which will include reading of stories such as No David! to kick off the Social Studies Curriculum for Kindergarten regarding how rules help us as children and as citizens.  We will also be discussing and voting on the best class pet(s) for our room this year, and learn more about our classroom helper jobs.

If you ever have questions or concerns about your child's learning at Kindergarten, please contact me at the school.  I return phone calls and e-mails after school each day at  the school number below and/or at lbutterfield@bsls.ca.  For emergency calls, please call the school office to reach Mrs. Sandra Madden, who can contact me in the classroom.  204-984-9600 x.5
