Show-and-Tell, Party Time and Pumpkin Time

SHOW-AND-TELL
While we regularly have "Sharing Time" as part of our morning routine in Kindergarten, this month we will have a special "Show-and-Tell" schedule to further practice our oral language and appreciative audience skills.  Each child will have two opportunities to bring in a special item that they would like to show their classmates, which is a special exception to the "no toys at school rule" that we are allowed for this activity in Kindergarten.  We look forward to learning a little more about one another!

PARTY TIME
We look forward to spending some time for fun family fellowship with all of the Kindergarten Families at BSLS this Thursday at 5 p.m.  RSVPs for the early Kindergarten gathering time should be made to lbutterfield@bsls,ca or in your child's bookworm bag, while RSVPs to attend the movie and buy a hotdog from the canteen need to be done online through the P.I.P. page on the BSLS website http://bsls.ca/p-i-p/.  I look forward to seeing everyone together at this fun family time!

PUMPKIN TIME
We have learned about how the lines on a pumpkin relate to the number of seeds inside, and did a class estimate of the seeds in a class pumpkin before pulling it apart and working together to group and count them: 230 seeds!  The contents were then used for our "Orange Plate Project" which the students used to practice the Life Cycle of the Pumpkin, which very closely followed cycle of the apple tree learned in September.

In ELA we have begun using D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) time for early reading and pre-reading instruction, and as a quiet time after the lunch hour recess each day.  We will be adding new sounds to our sound books this week, and thus adding to the repertoire of short words we are practicing together.

In French we have been integrating counting, greetings, and calendar words into each day, and will learn some "pumpkin" words in the week ahead.
