"The best time to plant a tree |
Our Kindergarten Class will be planting bulbs and comparing plants and trees this week. The best location for this project is in the gardens in front of the school, which we will then look to in the spring for the results of our project. In addition, we will be doing some indoor class planting during the colder months, and look forward to a trip to Fort Whyte later in the school year.
Pumpkin Day Celebrations
October 31st is a special day of learning and fun in Kindergarten, and while more information will come in the weeks ahead, for planning purposes please expect an outline of the year's "class parties" that we usually work toward in Kindergarten. It will include requests for parents who are able to send any one of the following items to school: healthy snacks, party plates, napkins and drinks. If you have a particular holiday that you would like to bring the items for, please indicate so on the form coming home, and I am happy to accomodate it in my class planning.
On Pumpkin Day, October 31st, Children will be invited to wear costumes in the afternoon at school. Even if your child does not participate in trick-or-treating as a family tradition, they are encouraged to participate in the classroom festivities which will focus on pumpkin science, math, art, language arts and Christian interpretations of the theme. Your child will definitely be assisted, but please consider the level of independence with which they can put their costume on (over their clothes). We will play some pumpkin themes learning games and will collectively carve pumpkins as well.
Remembrance Day - November 11th
While there is no school on November 10th or 11th, our school holds a Remembrance Day service at 11 a.m. in our close approximation to the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This service is held annually and all classes are called to participate at BSLS. Watch Mrs. McCrea's principal's update for more information in the weeks ahead, as parents are welcome to attend.
