Spring, Slush, and Stars

Warm greetings, Kindergarten Families!

Today kicked off the Kindergarteners "Star of the Day" schedule, and both the presenter and the audience did an exceptional job - verbally presenting, reading, listening and asking excellent questions were an incredible evolution from the sharing times at the beginning of Kindergarten.  If you require an additional copy of the schedule or information, I am happy to put one in your child's bookworm bag.  I will not be posting the schedule on the class blog, as it contains children's first names.  There is also a copy posted inside the door of our classroom on the bulletin board on the left.

Also, I have received one scheduling change request, and if you already know that your child's date is too difficult to make work, welcome you to contact me right away (and at least one week prior to your child's scheduled day) and I will send an alternate in your child's bookworm bag..  Making these foreseeable changes now simplifies changes required for unforeseeable reasons down the road, such as illness.

Snow.  Snow?  Snow!
We continue to learn and to celebrate Spring indoors, even as we dress for "sloppy wet winter" (Slinter?) outdoors.  We did not go outdoors for last recess several days last week, and again today, as most children were soaked through all of their extra socks and their ski pants after the lunch recess. I will continue to monitor the decision to stay in or go out for last recess on a daily basis.  I returned a few pairs of wet socks to lockers after school today after "drying" them in the classroom.  Some of the children are very proficient at tracking three pairs of mittens, socks, and their other belongings, but it has been very challenging for some.  I placed a couple of pairs of unmarked but tiny mittens above the K lockers after the students all declared they did not belong to them, as I did not want them to disappear to the Lost and Found when they so clearly were Kindergarten-sized.  I implore you to put names or initials on tags so that I can help the children with returning belongings to their rightful owner as they learn how to track their belongings.  Thanks so much!

Earth Day
Next Monday, April, 22nd is Earth Day.  I am asking that the children bring one empty clear plastic 2L  bottle for our planting and composting projects in Kindergarten.  Thank you in advance!

Have a wonderful week!

God bless,
Mrs. Lorianne Butterfield
