SPRING HAS SPRUNG

Dear Kindergarten Families: The sun is finally shining, and we will be able to take some of our Kindergarten learning outdoors in the weeks ahead! This is a bittersweet time in Kindergarten, as the children demonstrate their increased skill and readiness for Grade One, and I am reminded of both how much we have yet to do, and of the coming end of our learning time together. The students planted their seeds last week, and will be able to take their "bottle terrariums" home on Monday. They collectively demonstrate excellent knowledge of the needs of living things, and we have been working to apply this knowledge to a variety of plants and animals, including people living in a variety of climates. We will also continue with our reading and writing small groups, marshmallow 3-D structures and paper structure planning activities. With Mother's Day approaching, the Kindergarteners have begun work on "My Important Groups", beginning with their most important "group": their family. Later this week, they will also be bringing home a secret (breakable) surprise begun last week, which may require adult assistance to carry home safely and upright to avoid any tears (if unavoidable mishaps occur, I have one extra set of supplies for a "redo". We will hope for the best!). Cookie day was incredibly popular, and while some children were bewildered by the "one cookie" maximum for the first round of purchases, it worked out very nicely in Kindergarten in allowing enough time to eat lunch, have a treat (or take it home for you, in several students' cases :) ) and still go outside to play. Just over $40 was raised for the benefit of the children assisted by Compassion Canada thanks to your support and the baking of the administrative staff at BSLS! Thank you to our class stars for their presentations, and our lovely special visitors last week. We look forward to the star presentations to come. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's Kindergarten growth, I would really love to speak with you. After the other children have been picked up or delivered to After School Care, I return to the classroom and welcome the opportunity to speak with you without distractions and in confidence. Here is to your child's Kindergarten success! God bless, Mrs. Lorianne Butterfield Kindergarten Teacher, BSLS “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” ― Dr. Seuss
